The Forum Leader

Richard D. Lewis, who holds degrees in three modern languages from a British university and a diploma in Cultures and Civilisations from the Sorbonne, has been active in the fields of applied and anthropological linguistics for over 35 years.  His work in several fields of communicative studies has involved him in the organisation of courses and seminars for many of the world’s leading industrial and financial companies.

He has lived and worked in several European countries and the US, where his clients included ABB, Allianz, Banque de France, British Airways, Deutsche Bank, Ericsson, Fiat, Gillette, IBM, Lucent, Mercedes Benz, Microsoft, Nestlé, Nokia, Oracle, Pfizer, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Rolls Royce,  Unilever and Volvo. He also spent 5 years in Japan where he was tutor to Empress Michiko and other members of the Japanese Imperial Family.  During this period, when he was also active in the American Chamber of Commerce, his services were requested by firms such as Nomura, Mitsubishi, Hitachi , Sanyo, Mitsui and Nippon Steel. More recently he has been heavily involved in the intercultural field, founding companies in France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Brazil, teaching communication skills in these countries as well as Finland, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the USA.

  Mr Lewis is widely considered one of the world’s most renowned interculturalists and linguists. He speaks 10 European and 2 Asiatic languages and is currently chairman of Richard Lewis Communications plc, an international institute of language and cross-cultural training with offices in over a dozen countries.  He founded the quarterly magazine “Cross Culture” in 1989.  His recent best-selling book “When Cultures Collide” is regarded as the classic work on intercultural issues and was the Spring main selection of the US Book of the Month Club in 1997. His latest publication, “The Cultural Imperative”, forecasts global trends in the 21st century.Richard Lewis was chosen as the Personality of the Year 1999 by PATA (the Pacific Asia Travel Association) and was given the award on the basis of “the dedicated and extraordinary work carried out in the area of cross-cultural communication, having clear understanding and sensitivity for the cultures in the Asia/Pacific.” He was knighted by President Ahtisaari of Finland in March 1997 in recognition of his services in the cross-cultural field relating to the training of Finnish Ministries for EU entry (1995) and the EU Presidency (1999).

Donny Huang is founder and managing director of 4stones Cross-Cultural Consulting Group (www.4stones.net), the first local Chinese cross-cultural management firm.  Donny Huang has consulted large Chinese national corporations such as Lenovo, Huawei Technology, ZTE Corporation, China Life Insurance as well as multinationals such as Nokia, Microsoft, Motorola, World Bank, Telkom Indonesia, Fujitsu, Philips Medical System, Alcoa, Toyota , etc. His specialties are cross-cultural consulting, global leadership training and cross-cultural executive coaching. He is regarded as the top cross-cultural specialist in China by Chinese medias.

Donny has taught Intercultural Communications in Chaminade University of Honolulu, and was adjunct faculty at the Japan-American Institute of Management Science (JAIMS). Currently he is an adjunct professor at Peking University, University of International Business and Economics- Beijing (UIBE), and the Australia RMIT Business School  

Donny Huang is frequently quoted in and publishes over 30 articles in the Chinese business press, as well as contributing to “Managing Cultural Difference” (Six Edition) by Dr. Robert Moran. He holds an MBA in International Management from Thunderbird, the Garvin School of International Management, Arizona, USA, and did graduate work on Cultures and Leadership at the East-West Center in Hawaii . He also completed the Intern Program of the Intercultural Communication
